Our Story
It all started in a small garage in California, where our founder Alex Martin had a passion for tropical fish and a talent for tinkering. Dissatisfied with the aquarium options on the market, Alex began designing his own tanks with the goal of seamlessly integrating aquariums into home décor.
After much trial and error, Alex perfected a framed glass aquarium design that allowed the tank to blend beautifully into any room. Excited by his creation, Alex brought his invention to a local pet store. The owner was so impressed that he asked Alex to supply his entire chain of stores. Practically overnight, Alex went from tinkering in his garage to running a wholesale aquarium business out of his home.
Bolstered by the enthusiastic response to his products, Alex officially founded Imagitarium® in 1992. The name Imagitarium® was chosen to reflect our mission to ignite imagination and bring the magic of aquatic life into homes around the world.
Growth & Evolution
The initial success of our framed aquarium designs allowed Imagitarium® to rapidly expand distribution across the United States throughout the 1990s. We pioneered the concept of seamlessly integrating aquariums into home décor and became known for our unique and stylish designs.
